Why Impeach George W. Bush?
This president has failed the American people every step of the way in his
overly long, disastrous presidency. But rather than just name-calling, let's
examine why America needs a new President now, and why George W. Bush should be
cast out of the Oval Office in disgrace.
- The Iraq War: This was, and still is, a completely unjustified
war. We were lied to by the President, who stated repeatedly that Saddham
Hussein was on the "verge" of nuclear weapons capability and already
possessed an arsenal of "weapons of mass destruction". The truth is that
Hussein NEVER had nukes, and NEVER had WMDs. The most evidence that was ever
found was a few empty storage containers that COULD have stored chemical
precursors for WMDs, but not the actual weapons themselves. Hussein had no
meaningful military to speak of. Was he an evil dictator who abused his own
people? Yes. Did America have any business invading a sovereign nation
without provocation? No! What it all boils down to is this: When Clinton
lied, Hillary cried; when Bush lied, and thousands died.
- The Hussein / Osama "Connection": Another way the Americans were
lied into this war was the frequent, and erroneous, association of Hussein
and Osama bin Laden. These two terrorists were NEVER working in tandem.
Osama bin Laden wanted a universal Islamofascist state, while Hussein
operated a secular dictatorship. These two worldviews, while equally harmful
to the people governed, are also mutually exclusive. This was just another
Bush lie that made thousands of people die. After the Iraq War was well
underway, Bush was even quoted on television as saying, "I don't care about
getting Osama bin Laden".
- The REAL face of War: Haliburton: Doesn't ANYBODY find it odd
that Dick Cheney was once had a huge financial interest in Haliburton, and
it is this same corporation that gets exclusive contracts to rebuild things
in Iraq that the President ordered our troops to destroy? I think it's odd.
Let's see: our soldiers are ordered to destroy huge swaths of Iraqi cities,
and then Haliburton comes in behind them to rebuild what was destroyed -- at
a huge profit! It's OUR tax dollars that are getting the Haliburton
executives ever-richer while our soldiers are getting shot and killed every
day over what is essentially a corporate war.
- Gasoline Greed: As if it was not bad enough that the President
gave away $8 billion of OUR tax dollars to the oil cartel, he has done
NOTHING to stop them from ongoing price gouging. How is the American economy
supposed to flourish when the average citizen's heating bill is almost as
high as the mortgage? Meanwhile Exxon records a $10 billion dollar profit in
JUST THREE MONTHS! And that's not including the $8 billion dollars that GWB
gave these corporate plunderers for free. And how did this situation arise
in the first place? See item #1. When Bush started this unjustified war in
Iraq, it destabilized the entire region, which, in turn raised the prices of
oil futures, which, in turn raised the prices at the pumps -- a lot! And
lest we forget, it was Bush who criticized Clinton over the "sky high" gas
prices of $1.29/gallon back in June 2000. On Bush's watch, the price of fuel
doubled in many areas and tripled in others. Thank you, Bush! Bush also saw
no need to invest any R&D money into alternate fuels or hybrid technology
until four months ago, after he finally realized that his approval score was
hovering around 30%
- The Reverse Robin Hood: As if the American People weren't already
on the ropes from the utility prices, job outsourcing, and the stagnant
post-911 economy, Bush enacted two pieces of legislation designed
specifically to hurt the poor. First, he made bankruptcy for the poor a
thing of the past. Now, if you lose your job (usually do to CEOs outsourcing
your job to India so that they themselves can get a couple extra million in
their annual bonus), you have no legal recourse to free yourself from debts.
It must have been a real comfort to the Katrina victims to know that their
homes and livelihoods were destroyed just in time for Bankruptcy Reform to
go into effect. On top of that, the latest "tax cut" only aids those with
incomes of $1 million per year or more. These people should pay MORE taxes,
not LESS! And the "savings" was possible because Bush cut social spending
first in order to give the proceeds to the richest 0.001% of Americans.
- Tax-Cut and Spend?: The President is obviously mathematically
challenged. Never before in the history of America has a President gone to
war AND given tax cuts. In fact, in 5.5 years, George W. Bush has NEVER
issued a veto on ANY piece of spending legislation. He's basically given a
signed blank check to every special interest and pork-barrel project that
has come his way. The result: Our country is dangerously in debt. Bush has
increased the national debt more in 5 years than every other president in
American history combined. And Bush wants to "solve" the debt problem by
scrapping Social Security and turning our national parks into oil
refineries. We must remember that the only president in recent history that
managed to balance the books is the ever-vilified Bill Clinton. His personal
morality was somewhat questionable, but he had a good head for figures and
knew what it was like to grow up poor.
- Domestic Wire-Tapping: It amazes me that George W. Bush can say
with a straight face that there's nothing wrong with him ordering the NSA to
indulge in illegal wiretaps on American citizens. This procedure wasn't a
few isolated incidents either. This was widespread, ongoing, and
comprehensive. It occurs to me that Bush must not feel very comfortable or
trusting towards the people he OCCASIONALLY governs (during those rare weeks
when he's not on extended vacation -- se next point). Domestic spying is
inexcusable and reprehensible. If I had to choose only ONE reason on this
list for why Bush needs to be fired, this would be it.
- Cronies Ahoy!: You've got to wonder how a President with any sort
of conscience and patriotism can possibly promote for appointment Supreme
Court judges who are "pro-torture" and have no qualms about sidestepping the
Constitution for political expediency. And how about that great Mr. Brown of
FEMA? He was a Bush appointee who had NO EXPERIENCE in disaster management
-- and the city of New Orleans paid the price.
- The Anti-Labor President: Being an American is all about the
pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. But here we have a President who
signed an executive waiver permitting Haliburton & Cronies to hire illegal
aliens for rebuilding New Orleans and to sidestep minimum wage laws --
indefinitely. I guess, since he was born a millionaire, he doesn't
understand the concept of an honest day's wage for an honest day's work.
He's also the same President that tried (and failed) to end overtime pay for
low-end workers while at the same time trying to grant overtime pay to
executives who are already getting six and seven-digit salaries. He's also
the same President who was toying around with the idea of taxing health
insurance benefits as INCOME, which would have made health care almost
impossible to afford for anyone making less than $40k/year.
- The Vacation President: There has only ever been one President
who took more tax-payer funded vacations that George W. Bush: his own father
George Bush 41. It is a slap in the face to the American people that this
President takes off an ENTIRE MONTH during "wartime" and the Katrina
disaster. What he needs to get is a permanent vacation in the form of
Impeachment.
These are MY ten reasons why Bush should be impeached. I'm sure that others
have theirs. Personally, I've never before witnessed an administration that
somehow managed to be on the WRONG SIDE of every single political and social
issue. It's a disgrace.
