To use this table, the attacker will roll a D20 and then match his BAtCh against the defender's armor class (AC). For example, if an attacker has a BAtCh of 17 and rolls a 14 on his/her D20 attack roll, that attack will hit AC(3) or weaker. This table also is used for parrying. For instance, a defender with BAtCh(19) wearing AC(7) armor is hit with a blow that land against AC(3), the defender would need to roll a 16 or higher to parry the blow.

It should also be noted that an unmodified D20=20 always hits/parries because it is a critical success while an unmodified D20=1 always misses (or fails to defend) because a critical fumble al;ways indicates failure.
